Web 2.0 Wrap-up

Over the past ten weeks we have been able to learn about Web 2.0 tools I found the course to be an excellent course it allowed me to learn about technology that I have heard about but never used. Some of the technology I would use for instance I like blogging, RSS feeds and newsreaders, tagging was interested too. I might use LibraryThing and Rollyo in the future. Others like Tagging Del.icio.us are not something I see myself using I just thought they were boring however I do see where they can be used. Overall I found the course to very informative and I could see it being offer to students in the future.

YouTube and Podcast

This weeks activity involved YouTube and Podcasting. YouTube was very interesting, you can find a video on just about anything, some funny and serious. Some videos I found describe the how different technologies are affecting library. Follow these links to see how.

YouTube would be excellent tool to use to promote Library events. It also could be used to give tours of the University as well as the library. Podcasting is another tool library could use to help patron. I found Podcasting the better of the two in that it provides feedback and have more options for users.
Here some links that I thought were very interesting in relation to Libraries and podcasts

Facebook vs MySpace

Facebook and MySpace are both excellent social networking tools. However I found that MySpace is more for teenagers looking for friends and Facebook is more for networking and can be used by organization. If I were to use either one of these on a regular basis I would chose Facebook, I feel more comfortable with the control they have put in place. Also Facebook is easy to navigate the MySpace. I found MySpace to crowded for images of things that I was not interested in. They both allow for customization but Facebook does it in a neater format.

Wikis in the Library

I found that wikis are a very interesting tool. I have no idea that there were some many wikis out there. While searching for example of wikis I found the unofficial wiki of GLIS at UIUC I found the site to be very informative sense I hope to be admitted to the program this summer. I would probably use wikis in the future for more information when needed. I do know however that you must take the information with a grain of salt because something the information can be bias and based on a person opinion. I have added so examples of the wikis I found in my links section.

Tagging, Del.icio.us, Technorati

I must say I did not really enjoy this week assignment. I actually found it a litte boring. I had a little trouble with Del.icio.us so I got a little help. Had no problems with tagging and technorati I learned what each technology is used for but I don’t think I will be using them in the future.

Rollyo, LibraryThing & Image Generators

Rollyo I found to be a little difficult but with a little help I was able to get my search engine together. My URL: http://rollyo.com/ebonyqueen70/my_ebonyshopsearch/
LibraryThing I also had a little trouble with librarything but one I figure out what to do I had no problems. I also like the fact that I could add my librarything catalog to my blog. Check it on the side above my links. The image generator was the easiest of the three to do. I rather enjoyed this week and I will probable to continue to use both my rollyo and librarything account once the course is over for my own personal use.
